Posing Dog

August 7, 2017

So in the past I've been asked a few times if I can work with dogs. Some folks want their family portraits to include their pets. I am going to be honest: I never really understood it. I have never been a dog person. My husband is a dog person... so we got a dog a few months ago. Well... he agreed to adopt a dog from a friend of a friend, and I tried to come up with every reason NOT to adopt this puppy. But, we have had her 10 weeks now, and she has grown on me. Does this mean I am a dog person, now?

Photographing a dog is not easy, but I find it easier to photograph them if they know a few commands: sit, watch me, and stay. We learned them at the puppy obedience class at out. But I'm sure you can find how to teach these commands from the wonderful world of the internet.

Below are 2 photos of Chloe. The first is her 1st week of puppy training, and the second on her last day of puppy training. The first photo was a lucky shot of her sitting still for a split second. The second photo after we finished her training is her sitting in stay waiting for me to release her.
